3 Important Tips For Home Based Businesses

Having a home based business isn't a shock anymore. We already do so many things at home we used to have to go out to do that working was the logical next step. For many people a home-based business may not be their only source of income but it provides them with additional money and they get to spend more time with their family rather than working elsewhere.
The perks are obvious to working at home but there are some things you need to be prepared for before getting started:
1. Stick with your comfort zone: One of the biggest mistakes people make when starting a home-based business is they try to grab any paycheck they can find. Stick with what you are good at and expand on it. For example, if you usually do your own taxes that is something you can turn into a home based business. There are many programs available that can teach you how to work from home by doing other peoples taxes. Small businesses cannot afford a full-time bookkeeper to work in-house but they could afford someone who is set up to work part-time at their own home. That's a great way for you to make steady income, have an increase in business during tax season and not get overwhelmed by taking on something you don't really know how to do.
2. Avoid distractions: The television, social media, long lunches and so many other things can easily distract you from getting work done. That's one of the issues people are not prepared for when they try working from home. At an office or store you have the work in front of you and distractions behind you. At home it's the complete opposite so it's easy to get distracted and wasting time when working at home is also wasting money. Most work at home jobs will not be hourly, they will pay you for the project so if you do not get the job done in quickly, you are lowering your own hourly rate.

3. Don't forget who is doing the work: One of the biggest issues with home-based businesses is trying to get the work in the first place. Well if you get to a point where a lot of work is coming in you will want to grab as much as possible. Do not forget that you are the one doing the work so if you are already looking at a full plate then you may have to decline any more.
It's never easy to start your own home-based business but if you keep yourself organized and focused you should have success. Remember you have to give yourself time to talk with clients, research new information and all the other things you normally wouldn't have to worry about with an hourly job.
Every home based business that is successful started out where you are at right now. You need to find something that will give you the advantage and this is a great start: https://1040taxbiz.com/index.php/offerings/home-base

How To Find Hobbies That Make Money

Today's economy still isn't that great. But people who have some initiative are finding that they have hobbies that make money. And they're cashing in!
I wonder how many people realize that they might have hobbies that make money? I'm a member of a couple of really active forums about working from home.
And it never fails to amaze me how many new people want to start making money online, and they think they can just jump right into one of the too-many make money from home scams out there.
Or they don't seem to realize that getting into affiliate marketing or network marketing isn't going to make them money as fast as they need it.
There's a lot involved even if you're trying to make money from blogging alone, let alone marketing and building a profitable affiliate or network marketing business.
I'm not saying that you shouldn't get into these types of online programs or you should start blogging for money. But some of these online money-making opportunities require some type of cash investment.
And if you've just lost your job for any number of reasons, you might not have that cash to invest. So maybe it's time to just do what you love and make money with it.
Once you start making a little bit of a profit, you can use that money to get into an affiliate or MLM opportunity.
How Can I Make Extra Money with a Hobby?
Today's economy still isn't that great. People are getting laid off of their full time jobs every day, or their hours are getting cut back and they're being forced to look for new jobs or second jobs.
But for those people who have some initiative and drive are finding that they already have hobbies that make money. And they're turning to the Internet to cash in!
They're doing what they love to do already, and if they've lost their primary jobs, they're finding they have some extra time to turn those interests into profitable small businesses.
Don't Have a Hobby Yet?
Yes, you do! I think everyone has at least one hobby. Here are some pretty common hobbies that can make you some cash.
  1. Making crafts
  2. Writing
  3. Collecting (I collect mugs as a hobby; my husband collects canes!)
  4. Sports and sporting activities
  5. Going to flea markets
  6. "Junk" collecting
  7. Car enthusiasts
  8. Event planning
  9. Photography
  10. Painting
  11. Making jewelry
  12. Baking
  13. Writing music
You can also check out fiverr.com and etsy.com and looking at what other people are doing to turn their hobbies into cash.
Making Money with Your Favorite Hobby
There are some people who are literally afraid to start using their hobbies to make money. Why? They think that if they have to start doing it as a "job," they won't like doing it anymore.
That's where your mindset has to change, seriously.
Personal Examples of Hobbies that Make Money
I started designing laminated bookmarks as a hobby. I made them for favors for a couple of family members - wedding favors, shower favors, birthday party favors, etc. People really like them and suggested I start selling them.
So I launched a website just for bookmark favors. My hobby started making about $1000 to $1500 a month! Not bad for a hobby!
And I still loved doing it because I got to do it more often, first of all. But the compliments I received from my customers made me feel great! It was a real confidence booster that something I created myself was actually worth money to people who didn't have my skills and love of doing something creative.
My Husband's Hobbies Turned Into a Nice Part-time Income, Too!
We got a Christmas gift from a family member that was so intriguing, my husband decided to start making them as gifts for other family members.
Then he decided to set up at a local craft show and we sold out! So I launched a website for him plus he sells his crafts on eBay.
His next hobby is really making a nice profit; pulling interior and exterior auto body parts from junked cars and reselling them for upwards of 300% profit - on eBay.
It Can Be Done!
You just have to find out what it is that you love to do, or even just "like" to do, and find ways of turning that interest into some cold, hard cash.

No More Shift Work Damaging Your Brain When You Work From Home

Working unusual hours can do more than damage your social life; research has found it can prematurely age your brain.

A study published in the journal Occupational and Environmental Medicine has revealed that a decade of shift work could age the brain by more than six years.
Researchers conducted the study on 3232 employed and retired workers, who were aged 32, 42, 52 and 62 at the time of the first measurement, and were seen again five and 10 years later. Participants completed tests of speed and memory, which were assessed at all three intervals.
The results revealed that working unsocial hours was connected to “impaired cognition”, and the association was strongest in those who had been working for longer than a decade. For those participants, their cognitive loss was the equivalent of 6.5 years of age-related decline.
They also discovered that cognitive functioning could recover after having left shift work, although it took at least five years to reverse.

It’s not the first time the health effects of shift work have been highlighted. Like chronic jetlag, it’s known to disrupt your normal circadian rhythms and associated with an increased risk of health problems such as obesity, metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular disease. One 2014 study even found that shift work can increase the risk of type-2 diabetes in men by 37 per cent.
According to lead study author Dr Jean Claude Marquié from the University of Toulouse, these latest findings show that shift workers’ health should be closely monitored.
“The cognitive impairment observed in the present study may have important safety concerns not only for the individuals concerned, but also for society as a whole given the increasing number of jobs in high-hazard situations that are performed at night,” he wrote.
“The findings highlight the importance of maintaining a medical surveillance of shift workers, especially of those who have remained in shift work for 10 years or more.”

It's even more important to take time out for exercise, when you work from home/

Another worrying story from AAP today. All the more reason to start a business from home, and therefore stay at home!!
Fly-in fly-out workers are afraid to talk about their mental health for fear of losing their jobs.
Fly-in fly-out workers are afraid to talk about their mental health for fear of losing their jobs.

There is a "toughen up princess" attitude on work sites that prevents some fly-in fly-out workers from seeking help for mental health problems, a union says.
The West Australian government's education and health standing committee is conducting an inquiry into the mental health impacts of FIFO work and heard from several speakers on Wednesday.
Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union state secretary Mick Buchan said in a statement there was a macho attitude on sites, so workers were often too scared to raise concerns for fear their employment would be threatened.
Mr Buchan said there needed to be independent support structures, shorter roster lengths, better communication services, more regulation and a pathway back to work for those who had experienced a mental health issue.
FIFO Families founder and director Nicole Ashby says people don't realise the impact the lifestyle can have on workers' mental health and the pressure on their families who live without them for extended periods.
"The first six months of FIFO work is make or break," Ms Ashby told AAP.
"Support for the worker's partner at home and the family unit is so important."
WA Chamber of Minerals and Energy deputy chief executive Nicole Roocke said despite reports of nine suicides among FIFO workers in the Pilbara in the past 12 months, that figure had not been substantiated, nor causal factors identified.
She said there was evidence to suggest suicides in FIFO workers were occurring at a similar rate to that of the state and well below those in the regions.

The number of Australians declaring bankruptcy has grown over the past 12 months, an AAP report today shows. This is another great reason to look at starting another stream of income from home, instead of waiting for the axe that may fall on your job, if you are working for someone else.
Queensland was the state with the greatest number of bankrupts per capita in 2013/14, with one insolvency per 376 people, figures from the Australian Financial Security Authority show.
The Sunshine State's rate compares to one debtor, or insolvent, per 546 adults across the nation.
It also points to a worsening situation in Queensland, where there was one bankrupt for every 516 people in the previous financial year.
But the postcode with the worst insolvency record over 2013/14 was Newcastle West, where there was one insolvent per 75 adults.
Newcastle West shaved Ilfracombe, a small town in central west Queensland, where there was one bankrupt for every 80 adults.
Tasmania also had a per capita rate of insolvency higher than the national average.
The ACT, Victoria, Western Australia, South Australia and the Northern Territory had rates that were lower than the national average.
INSOLVENCY BY POSTCODE IN EACH STATE

  • NSW - 2302 Newcastle West (1 debtor per 75 adults)

  • ACT - 2914 Gungahlin (1 debtor per 332 adults)

  • VIC - 3902 Latrobe/Gippsland (1 debtor per 94 adults)

  • Qld - 4727 Ilfracombe(1 debtor per 80 adults)

  • SA - 5115 Adelaide North (1 debtor per 131 adults)

  • NT - 0870 Outback (1 debtor per 453 adults)

  • WA - 6536 Outback (1 debtor per 191 adults)
